Marchant Calculator

GO Engineering had one. Alva Meadows would teach and re-teach John Larison and myself every Monday how to use it. Super complicated and we never did understand it.

When it became out-of-date and was replaced by electronic calculators they suddenly became antiques and were in great demand. It was understood that it was going to Michigan.

Most of the districts had a Jeep Trencher.  Bob Lambert ran the one at Columbus. Used mainly to dig the trench for the service from the main to the house.

When they became obsolete, they also were loaded up and taken to Michigan.

Digitizing Table. Used by the short-lived Electronic Mapping Department.  Jim West, Barbara Smith and Kevin Cross.

We had two of them plus beautiful SUN computers and monitors.  Each Digitizing Table alone cost approximately $18,000. When the department was shut down, they both were seen leaving the MDC before the company garage sale was opened for the "ordinary" employees in the back of one of the VP's truck (TH).

Since they were not IBM equipment there was no way the computer department could allow them to exist.

Bill Sweeney and Wendell Thaller

Bill was formerly from Columbus. Eventually he became Superintendent of the Franklin Meter Shop. Replaced by Terry Camden. While working at MDC alongside Jim West and Shirley Decker, he developed a brain tumor and given only a few weeks to live.  He and his wife bought a new modular home in Shelby County. He got to live in it for only one day before he passed away.
