Indiana Gas & Water Properties For Sale

Bids for the purchase of the company's seven water properties will be opened on April 24th (1967). A number of prospective purchasers has expressed interest since announcement was made on February 8th of the company's invitation for bids.

To be acceptable, a bid must include provisions that employment will be continued by the purchaser of all IG&W employees now associated with the company's water operations

An acceptable bid for the purchase of all seven properties as a unit will be subject to the approval of IG&W shareholders and the Public Service Commission of Indiana.

IG&W water properties, located in Crawfordsville, Noblesville, Franklin, Shelbyville, New Albany, Clarksville and Jeffersonville, serve approximately 36,00 customers. Practically all afe gas customers.

IG&W Will Sell Water Properties To Consolidated Water, Chicago

On April 28th Mr. Heiney announced that the board of directors has approved the sale of the companies seven water properties to Consolidated Water Company of Chicago.  The sale is subject to the approval of the Public Service Commission of Indiana and o the company's stockholders.

Consolidated's bid of $12,552,000 was the highest and most acceptable o the six bids received in response to the solicitation for bids published February 8.

The water properties being sold have a total of 36,069 customers located in Crawfordsville, Franklin, Shelbyville, Noblesville, New Albany, Clarksville and Jeffersonville.

Consolidated Water Company owns water utilities in California, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, and Michigan. Indiana properties operated in Indiana Water Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Consolidated, are located at Wabash, Greenwood, French Lick-West Baden, Rockport, Newburgh, Summitville and Somerset.

At this time, I was the only person in Maps & Records. I was out this day working in Madison when Lyle Seward called me and told me to get back to the General Office ASAP. I "flew" back and prepared all the Water property maps for the new owners. Jim West

 

We're Now The Indiana Gas Company
Name Changed With Sale Of Water Properties
94, Count 'Em 94!

Our company has a new name. Gone is the "& WATER" along with the seven water properties which were sold to Consolidated Water Co., of Chicago.

The sale was closed September 1 of the water utilities in Crawfordsville, Franklin, Shelbyville, Noblesville, New Albany, Clarksville and Jeffersonville. But practicable all of our water customers are also gas customers. So, happily, we are losing very few of our old friends.

Actual operation of the water properties is by Indiana Cities Water Corporation, a subsidiary of Consolidated Water Co. Indiana Gas Company offices will serve as temporary offices for Indianan Cities Water Corp.

Meanwhile in those cities where our service headquarters have been located in the water works buildings, we will be moving to new service quarters as soon as arrangements can be made.

Indiana Gas Company is now serving natural gas in 94 Indiana communities. The big jump from 85 to 94 cane i late July when we acquired the physical properties of Western Indiana Public Service Co. including nine communities located in Montgomery, Parke, and FOuntain counties in west central Indiana.

The new communities are Waynetown, Hillsboro, Veedersburg, Covington, Marshall, Kingman, Yeddo, Annapolis and Bloomingdale.

H. E. "Bud" Anderson, formerly with Western Indiana Public Service, has been appointed division engineer of the Lafayette division. However for the time being, he is managing the Veedersburg office.

"Getting To Know You"

To become better acquainted in our new service area, the company was host to city councilmen, town board members and other community officials at a dinner, August 16, at the Holiday Inn, Crawfordsville. Approximately 20 guests were present.

Representatives of he company included G. H. Thornburg, Lafayette division manager, Barry Russell, Crawfordsville district commercial manager; Leo Macy, district superintendent and Ed Weast, district engineer, both from the Crawfordsville district; W.V. Bell, E.B. Smith and C.R. Jessup all from the Indianapolis general office.

The aims and policy of the company were explained to the guests. It was also announced that the uniform, company -wide rates will apply and that this will result in a 20% to 25% reduction in the cost of gas in the new communities.

Dealer Meeting Also Held

Heating and air conditioning dealers in he new communities met with Indiana Gas service and sales representatives at another dinner meeting. It was held August 22 at the Country Kitchen, north of Marshall. 25 dealers and their representatives were present.

Ray Stewart, supervisor of service and Jack Grabert, heating and air conditioning sales manager, presented an informational program covering the company's sales and promotional activities and our service policy and relations.
